About the screening kit

This community meeting toolkit reflects and supports the goals of HBO's The Weight of the Nation, developed in partnership with the Institute of Medicine (IOM), in association with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and with the support of the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation and Kaiser Permanente.

The Weight of the Nation film screenings provide an opportunity for communities to learn more about the impact of the obesity epidemic and discuss how their community can best prevent and control obesity. This toolkit is designed to give you the resources and guidance you need to organize a successful screening of one or more of the films and discussion about the obesity epidemic in your community. It's our hope that local screening events, like yours, will catalyze local efforts to combat obesity across the country.

The kit includes:

• Planning materials including event ideas, recommendations on how to develop an invite list and promotional activities.
• Checklsits for planning and coordinating the event.
• An overview of promotional marketing, with media materials including a media advisory, pitch letter and news release in template format.
• Promotional materials including sample flyers, invites and thank-you letters.
• A guide on how to convene a panel and moderate a discussion, including a template agenda for the event.
• Educational materials on obesity to handout to attendees.
