Help your child dress appropriately to be physically active at school

Take This Action Commit to this action for your family to help overcome the obesity epidemic.

Kids need at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day, but it doesn't need to happen all at once! If your child is dressed in active wear, they can run and play throughout the day.

Help Your Child Dress for Physical Activity Success

  • Make sure your child has comfortable clothing so they can move throughout the day. Ask your child's school for assistance if you are having difficulty acquiring clothes.
  • Remember footwear! Athletic shoes allow your child to participate fully in recess, PE, and other active endeavors.
  • Plan for special occasions like track and field day, class hikes, or a swimming unit in PE, and dress your child accordingly.
  • Pay attention to the weather. In colder months, send gloves, hats, and other winter gear so your child can still enjoy outdoor recess. In warmer months, send a water bottle so your child stays hydrated.
